Family House in Estoril

The main idea is to create a rectangular box covered with concrete, whose larger openings are facing south, in order to establish a strong relationship with the garden and its surroundings.

Based on the urban parameters defined in the Loteamento Permit and the established program, a contemporary design was created capable of respecting the defined rules, seeking to establish a simple and easy-to-relation image with the place, simultaneously responding to the current demands for comfort and habitability. The concept was based on the difference in elevation between the north and south sides of the land. This difference led to the choice of a solution to build an access ramp, with a slope of 8%, between the entrance to the lot and the entrance to the house. In order to maintain a language of simple and clear lines, the walls will be covered in gray concrete with the formwork marking, with the exception of the entrance to the house, which was chosen as a single element with the wall covered with trespa panels with a wood finish. Given the solar orientation and existing vegetation on the site, the main rooms of the house are south-facing, enjoying a balcony and terraces that extend the interior space to the outside, thus creating a wide visual range.

The housing program is distributed over 3 floors, connected by a nucleus of stairs. Two floors of housing (the ground floor and the 1st floor) and a basement. Due to the difference in the terrain and seeking to establish a strong connection between indoor/outdoor, it was decided to place the most private spaces of the house on floor 0 and floor 1, the more social part, which through the balcony will enjoy a covered outdoor space facing the existing green plan. On the 1st floor balcony, there are stairs in the shape of a helix that guarantee access to the roof. The coverage will be a leisure area, consisting of a swimming pool, a sunbed area and a garden space.
